2019 Winners

The Braun Residence

Residential Single Family

The 2019 Golden Trowel Award for Residential – Single Family was awarded to the Braun Residence.  Built by Mason Contractor Veazey Enterprises and Designed by Braun Design Initiatives this 3,000 square foot home was built on a 50×125 foot lot in urban Houston.  The judges appreciated how the masonry work successfully blended the outside with the inside creating open spaces with similarly colored and textured materials.

The McKenzie

Residential Multi Family

The 2019 Golden Trowel Award for Residential – Multi Family was awarded to the The McKenzie. Built by mason contractor C.W. Oates Masonry and designed by LRK.  The judges liked the cast stone work and the crisp, clean brick work. They noted how the blend of stone and brick on this 26 story masonry project enhanced its appeal.  Judges also found the concrete work to be excellent.

GrapeVine Public Safety Building

Government & Institutional

The 2019 Golden Trowel Award for Government and Institutional was awarded to the Grapevine Public Safety Building.  Constructed by DMG Masonry and designed by Brinkley Sargent Wiginton Architects this was one of the judges favorite buildings.  They were impressed by the level of brick detailing. In particular, the way the brick is returned back to the wall creating a shadow line that enhances the brick work both day and night.
